JEE Advanced 2020: 98% of candidates assigned exam city among top three options, says IIT Delhi – education


Nearly 98 percent of candidates applying for JEE-Advanced have been assigned an exam center from the top three cities chosen by them during registration, according to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) here, which is conducting the exam.

A total of 1.6 lakh candidates have registered for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) -Advanced after scoring the JEE-Main. The exam is scheduled for September 27.

“Up to 97.94 percent of candidates who have registered and paid the IIT JEE Advanced 2020 fee have been assigned exam cities, which are among the top three choices they had made during registration. The remainder of 2.06 percent were also assigned review cities from eight choices they made during registration, ”said a senior official at IIT Delhi.

“The test cities to the candidates have finally been assigned completely randomly, based on an advanced algorithm, to achieve the most efficient distribution. The algorithm also takes note of the fact that these are challenging times due to COVID-19 and it is necessary to maintain physical distancing at each center to ensure their safety, ”he added.

The official claimed that the number of examination centers has increased from 600 last year to 1,000 and the number of examination cities has also increased from 164 to 222.

The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) -Mains for admission to engineering schools was held from September 1 to 6, amid strict precautions and social distancing measures in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The staggered entry and exit of the candidates, the disinfectants at the door, the distribution of masks and the maintenance of distance while the candidates queued, were some of the scenes witnessed in the examination centers across the country.

While a total of 8.58 lakhs of candidates had registered for the JEE-Mains exam, 2.5 lakhs of the candidates were eligible to sit for the JEE-Advanced exam which is conducted for admission to IIT across the country.
