Chris Gayle, one of the most feared T20 hitters, has yet to appear at IPL 2020. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) captain KL Rahul decided to go without Chris Gayle in both of the inaugural meetings of IPL 2020. This it’s a surprise. for many like Gayle and Rahul they had forged key partnerships in the previous IPL.
Rahul said Gayle has been the biggest match winner in T20 cricket and dropping him in the opening matches has been pretty tough decisions for the franchise to make. He also said Gayle has come back long after the lockdown and looking fit and getting stronger with each passing day.
“Chris Gayle has been the biggest match winner in T20 cricket and not playing a match winner like Chris is a very difficult decision for us. The way he’s come back after blocking, the way he’s hitting, he’s getting fitter and stronger day by day.
“He’s hitting the ball really well and at some point in the tournament he will have a huge role to play,” Rahul said during a conversation on InsideSport’s ‘Amstrad Face 2 Face Cricket Series’.
Gayle is one of the cleanest hitters on the ball and when his bat talks, he is hard to stop. Veteran West Indies hitter Gayle has established himself as a powerful ball forward not only for his national team but also in franchise leagues around the world. To this day, there is hardly any league left, where Chris Gayle has not made his presence felt.
From the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) to the Global T20 Canada League, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and the Everest Premier League (EPL), Gayle has played almost everywhere.
Gayle has played 404 T20 matches. He has scored over 13,000 runs averaging 38.20 with the highest score of 175 undefeated. It has reached an incredible 22 centuries and 82 half centuries in this format.
