Director Priyadarshan said that SPB would be a person who never had enemies. “We first interacted when he came to sing for my film ‘Kilukkam’ (1991) and then he sang for my films in various languages. He was a happy and fortunate person and he never had airs. A great loss for everyone.” Priyadarshan said.
SPB sang for numerous Malayalam films and was always a frequent visitor from the state to participate in musical events.
Singer Asha Bhosle, in a statement, said: “This year has seen many unfortunate events. And the news of the disappearance of SP Balasubramaniam that I just heard saddens me even more. He was an incredibly versatile artist. His first songs after Sur, in Hindi with Lakshmikant Pyarelal was amazing. His duet with Lata didi was very memorable. Balu sang many songs for RD Burman and was his friend. He had helped me a lot with my Tamil pronunciation in my song for Ilayaraja. Loss of an artist so great has left a great void in the world of music. I wish your soul rest in peace on this musical journey to be one with the almighty. RIP Balu. “
