Kerala, once lauded for its effective containment measures, has been among the big trouble spots in recent weeks. The state reported 6,324 new cases, the highest daily cases in the state so far, on Thursday. A day earlier, it had reported 5,376 cases, crossing the 5,000 mark for the first time. The state now has more than 1.54 lakh of confirmed cases, of which nearly 46,000 are active.
However, the country as a whole and the five states with the maximum number of cases reported a decrease in the number of active coronavirus cases in recent days.
The number of COVID-19 cases in India surpassed 57 lakhs, while more than 46 lakhs of people have recovered from the disease, bringing the national recovery rate to 81.55%, according to the Ministry’s data. Union Health Department updated Thursday.
Total coronavirus cases rose to 57,32,518 with 86,508 people testing positive in one day, while the death toll rose to 91,149 with 1,129 people succumbing to the disease within 24 hours, updated data showed at 8 a.m. A.M. Total recoveries increased to 46,74,987 in the country so far. The COVID-19 fatality rate due to coronavirus infection was recorded at 1.59 percent.
