Actor Deepika Padukone, who has been subpoenaed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug case related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, arrived in Mumbai from Goa on Thursday. Padukone, who was filming for the Shakun Batra movie with Ananya Panday and Siddhant Chaturvedi in Goa, was accompanied by actor and husband Ranveer Singh. Republic Media Network sources are now reporting that, in a big move, Ranveer Singh has formally asked the central anti-drug agency if he can be present during the questioning of his wife on Saturday.
Deepika suffers from anxiety: Ranveer Singh
In his application to the NCB, Ranveer Singh has stated that Deepika Padukone sometimes suffers from anxiety and has panic attacks, so he must be granted permission to be with her, sources said. The actor has stated that he is a ‘law abiding citizen’ and knows that he cannot be present at the time of Deepika Padukone’s questioning, but it is understood that he requested to be allowed into the NCB office.
However, the NCB has not made a decision on his application, the sources said. Deepika Padukone will appear before the NCB on September 26, along with Sara Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor. Actor Rakul Preet Singh and Deepika Padukone’s manager Karishma Prakash are summoned on Friday. Meanwhile, statements by fashion designer Simone Khambatta and Shruti Modi, a former Rajput manager, were recorded by NCB’s investigation team in connection with the drug case.
On Thursday, the NCB asked Dharma Productions executive producer Kshitij Ravi to appear before it in the drug investigation related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Dharma Productions is owned by filmmaker Karan Johar. Ravi was asked to appear on Friday when her name came to light during the investigation. So far, the NCB has arrested actress Rhea Chakraborty in the case among others.
NCB’s crackdown on the drug nexus in Bollywood
Republic Media Network sources had previously reported that six of Bollywood’s top male actors have called their lawyers, fearful of action being taken against them over NCB’s massive crackdown on the Bollywood drug nexus. Sources have said that several stars are doing their best to plan an escape route. Sources have reported that other talent management agencies pressed the panic button after KWAN happened to be scrutinized by NCB.
