Drug investigation: designer Simone Khambata arrives at NCB’s guesthouse

The fashion designer is among the people the NCB is investigating in connection with the drug case.

Fashion designer Simone Khambata arrived at NCB’s guesthouse here Thursday morning to appear before the agency in connection with her investigation into an alleged Bollywood drug nexus, an official said.

Khambata’s name came up in the questioning of some people during the investigation of the Office of Narcotics Control (NCB) into the matter.

He arrived at NCB’s guest house in Colaba in South Mumbai around 9.30 a.m., the official said.

In addition to Khambata, the NCB also summoned actor Rakul Preet Singh and talent manager Shruti Modi to appear before the investigation team on Thursday, it said.

Rakul Preet Singh in his official statement said that “he has not received the alleged summons in either Mumbai or Hyderabad so far.”

However, NCB officials said the actress received a subpoena.

She was contacted through various platforms, including a phone number that is available with the agency. But so far there has been no response from her, the official said.

Some WhatsApp chats from people who were previously questioned by the NCB suggested a discussion about drugs, he said.

The NCB, which started the investigation after a drug angle came to light in connection with the alleged suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has now expanded its investigation and has asked some celebrities from the film industry’s A list. Mumbai officials to “join the investigation,” an official said Wednesday.

Previously, NCB sources had claimed that there was a “reference” to Rakul Preet Singh and Sara Ali Khan in the statement of Rajput’s girlfriend and actress, Rhea Chakraborty, who has been arrested in the case.

The NCB called on Wednesday actors Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh, among others, to question them.
