Brett Lee tried to give Dean Jones CPR after suffering a heart attack



Former Australian hitter Dean Jones died Thursday of a heart attack at a hotel in Mumbai. His compatriot and fellow commentator from the current Indian Premier League season, Brett Lee, was with him and they had breakfast together earlier. When he went into cardiac arrest in the hotel lobby, Lee tried to resuscitate Jones by giving him CPR, but was unable to save him. Jones was 59 years old. A beloved cricketer and commentator, Jones’ death came as a shock to the cricket fraternity.

Several current and former players took to social media to pay tribute to Dean Jones and mourned his death.

From legendary hitter Sachin Tendulkar to current India head coach Ravi Shastri, several tweeted their condolences.

Dean Jones has scored 3,631 runs in 52 events with an impressive 46.55 average since making his debut against the West Indies in 1984.

Jones played the famous Test tied between India and Australia in Chennai, breaking a double century in what was his fifth appearance.

Jones ended his career with 11 centuries in the game’s longest format.

Jones was also a good ODI player.

He made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Adelaide in 1984.

He then went on to score 6,068 runs with a 44.61 average. It reached seven centuries and 46 half centuries.

After announcing his retirement from competitive cricket, Dean Jones made a name for himself in the broadcast arena and was known as one of the best voices in world cricket.

The Australian also tried his luck as a coach and succeeded. He guided the Pakistan Super League franchises Karachi Kings and Islamabad United to titles in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
