Mamata Banerjee Announces Rs 50,000 Grant to Each Durga Puja Committee in Bengal | India News


CALCUTTA: Prime Minister of West Bengal Mamata banerjee Thursday announced a grant of Rs 50,000 to each Durga Puja Committee in the state.
Announcing a series of grants for around 37,000 Durga Puja committees in the state, Banerjee said the fire department, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), other civic organizations, municipalities and panchayats will not charge money or taxes for their services to the organizers of the puja.
“Due to the Covid pandemic, it has been a difficult time for all of us. We have decided to award a grant of 50,000 rupees to each Durga Puja committee of the state. We have also decided that the CESC and the state electricity board will give 50 for exemption pennies for the puja committees, “he said while addressing the Durga Puja coordination meeting here.
Mamata Banerjee asked the committees to prepare outdoor canopies in view of contagion and to ensure that pandal hoppers wear masks.
The prime minister also announced a one-time grant of Rs 2,000 for 75,000 state street vendors, as they had faced a difficult time due to the shutdown.
