Three consecutive explosions sparked a massive fire on the terminal’s main line at ONGC’s Hazira plant in the city of Surat early Thursday morning. So far, the district administration has reported no casualties.
Surat district collector Dr. Dhaval Patel said: “The incident took place at the ONGC Hazira plant, where a cloud of hydrocarbon vapor was sighted. A fire broke out at 3.05 am after three consecutive explosions. Several firefighters are on the scene and are trying to control the fire.
He added: “The fire occurred at the gas terminal plant and the technical activity to reduce air pressure has been carried out by ONGC officials. Slowly the fire is getting under control. It is not necessary to move people from the area. So far no victims have been reported ”.
Several officials from the fire department of the Surat Municipal Corporation, as well as from other Hazira companies, are present at the scene.
There are also several police officers deployed to the site. The incident has also caused traffic along the main road.
