NEW DELHI / BELAGAVI: The Union Minister of State for Railways and Karnataka BJP MP Suresh Angadi, 65, passed away on Wednesday, days after testing positive for Covid-19. Angadi is the central prime minister to die of coronavirus. Angadi passed away around 8 p.m. at the AIIMS trauma center, which has been turned into a facility dedicated to Covid-19, hospital sources said.
“He was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. Initially, his condition was stable. He suddenly deteriorated Monday night and we were unable to save him despite our best efforts, ”said AIIMS doctors.
Suresh Angadi Angadi was a deputy for Belagavi’s fourth term. At least six MLAs and three MPs have succumbed to Covid so far. Angadi tweeted on September 11 that he had contracted the disease.
“Shri Suresh Angadi was an exceptional Karyakarta, who worked hard to strengthen the party in Karnataka. He was a dedicated MP and effective minister, admired across the spectrum. His disappearance is sad, ”Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted. A blanket of sadness hung over political circles and among the people of northern Karnataka.
