Ambati Rayudu had a point to prove in the Chennai Super Kings opening match of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League against the Mumbai Indians. Rayudu was destined to be India’s pick for the No. 4 batting position in the World Cup squad last year, but Vijay Shankar took him to the post.

Batting in CSK’s 163-run chase in the 2020 IPL opener after starters Shane Watson and Murali Vijay were fired cheaply, Rayudu broke 71 runs on 48 balls to help his team win. Former Australia player Brad Hogg believes Rayudu will soon be back in competition for a spot on the India team.

“CSK has a lot of depth. Ambati Rayudu stood up and I think he can get back to doing a job at number 4. I won’t be surprised if he plays for India sooner rather than later, ”Hogg said in the latest video uploaded to his YouTube channel.
“I think he is going to have another great series. Look up, watch him make another 50 and he’ll make another 50 and become Man of the Match. “

Unfortunately for CSK fans, Rayudu suffered an injury causing him to be ruled out for his second game of the season against RR. Instead, Ruturaj Gaekwad was included in the game XI. That said, he will return to Game XI at some point and a good season promises to do Rayudu a lot of good.
In 2018, Rayudu racked up 602 runs in 16 games as CSK lifted the IPL title for the third time in his comeback season, earning him a spot on the ODI team of India. He was left out of the World Cup team, after which he announced his retirement from professional cricket only to reverse the decision a couple of months later.
