The Electoral Commission clarified on Wednesday that it had not issued any instructions to the CBDT to issue a notice to the PNC supreme, Sharad Pawar.

“In some sections of the media it has been reported that an income tax notice has been issued to Shri Sharad Pawar, Member of Parliament on instructions from the Election Commission of India. In this context, it is stated that the Election Commission of India has not issued any such order to CBDT to issue a notice to Shri Pawar, “said a press release.

Pawar had said a day ago that the Income Tax department had provided him with a notice regarding his voting affidavits submitted to the Election Commission. The leader said the Income Tax department has sought his “clarification and explanation” on some of the affidavits provided by him.

“I received the notice yesterday … We are happy that (the Center) loves us from among all the members … The notice was delivered by Income Tax after the Electoral Commission (it) requested … We will respond to notice, “he said. He responded to an inquiry about reports that his daughter and Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray had received similar notifications from the income tax department.
