Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh tweeted on Tuesday that eight opposition MPs, including himself, suspended for Sunday’s unprecedented chaos in Rajya Sabha, were fighting not for tea but for the well-being of farmers. .
“Mr. Modi, we are not fighting for our tea. We are fighting for the welfare of our farmers, who have been taken from us. I humbly ask: I return the tea to you with all due respect, please return my farmer’s bite,” Singh tweeted on Tuesday.
He was responding to Prime Minister Modi’s praise for Rajya Sabha Vice President Harivansh, who had offered tea to suspended MPs. Harivansh is at the center of all the controversy.
“Serving tea personally to those who attacked and insulted him a few days ago, as well as those who were sitting in dharna, shows that Shri Harivansh Ji has been blessed with a humble mind and a great heart. Show your greatness. I join the people of India in congratulating Harivansh Ji, ”the prime minister had previously tweeted.
Singh and seven other opposition party MPs were suspended for a week on Monday by Rajya Sabha President M Venkaiah Naidu for “interrupting” Harivansh during the passage of two of the three controversial farm laws on Sunday. The suspended deputies organized an overnight protest sit-in and on Tuesday morning refused the tea offered by the vice president.
Harivansh, meanwhile, has begun a 24-hour fast of his own, which he will observe until Wednesday.
