New Delhi:
Richa Chadha is nothing if not determined. On Tuesday, she shared a screenshot of a courier’s roadmap for a hard copy of a legal notice that she sent to the actress who accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment and also named Ms Chadha in the process. As Richa Chadha explained Monday night, the electronic copy of the legal notice was sent, but the hard copy could not be delivered because Kashyap’s accuser had refused to accept it. In her post Tuesday, Ms Chadha revealed that the legal representative who was delivering the document was denied entry to the actress’s residence, although media teams were. Undeterred, Richa Chadha mailed the legal notice. Read her post here.
Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi and Mahie Gill, all three led by Anurag Kashyap, were drawn into controversy after the actress claimed in an interview with ABN Telugu that Kashyap had said they were “just a phone call away”. “To which she allegedly replied,” You’ve given Richa Chadha, Mahie Gill, Huma Qureshi … they are such nominal looking girls. Directors usually don’t give them a chance, but you’ve done a great job. I’m not mentally ready for this right now. “
Richa Chadha and Huma Qureshi, who starred in Anurag Kashyap’s film Gangs of Wasseypur movies, both have reacted sharply. Ms. Chadha issued this attorney’s statement: “Our client ‘Ms. Richa Chadha’ condemns the fact that her name is unnecessarily and falsely dragged in a derogatory manner into controversies and accusations recently made by third parties. Although our client believes that really aggrieved women must obtain justice at all costs, there are laws that aim to guarantee that women enjoy the same position in their workplace and ensure that they have a friendly workplace where their dignity and self-esteem are protected. No woman should abuse her freedoms to harass other women with unfounded or non-existent, false and unsubstantiated accusations. Our Client has taken appropriate legal action and will continue to exercise their legal rights and the legal remedies that are advised in their best interest. ” .
Huma Qureshi wrote on Tuesday: “Anurag and I last worked together in 2012-13 and he is a dear friend and extremely talented director. In my personal experience and to my knowledge, he has not misbehaved to me or anyone else. However, no one Who claims to have been abused should report it to the authorities, the police and the judiciary. I chose not to comment until now because I do not believe in fights on social media and trials on social media. I feel really angry about being dragged into this mess. I feel angry not only for myself, but also for all the women whose years of hard work and struggle boil down to unsubstantiated conjecture and accusations in their workplace. Please refrain from this narrative. It is joint responsibility of men and women to carefully protest the sanctity of #MeToo. This is my final answer. Please do not approach me for further comment on this matter. “
Anurag Kashyap, who denies the allegations, has received support from several colleagues as well as his former partners, actress Kalki Koechlin and editor Aarti Bajaj.
