Without Buttler and Stokes, the hitting seems a bit tight and the onus will fall on Smith, David Miller, Robin Uthappa and Sanju Samson to deliver the merchandise.
Rajasthan has a good mix of youth and experience and the young Riyan Parag who impressed last season will be the one to look out for.
On the bowling front, there’s no shortage of pace with Jofra Archer and Varun Aaron in the mix. Archer will come into the game after a very good series of white balls against Australia. They also have versatile bowlers in Jaydev Unadkat and Andrew Tye. The inexperienced turning section is a possible weak link where Shreyas Gopal will be the vital cog.
CSK, on the other hand, has a balanced team. Starters Murali Vijay (1) and Shane Watson (4) would seek to make amends after the failures in the first game. Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis will look to carry forward the confidence of the IM match after their efforts to win the match. CSK’s strength is the depth of their batting and that allows them to be flexible, as seen against MI, where Jadeja and Curran were promoted ahead of Dhoni. Piyush Chawla will once again be the key in the bowling department. He was brilliant against MI finishing 4-0-21-0. CSK would not seek to play a lot with the winning combination.
With momentum on their side, CSK will start as a favorite against a relatively weak RR.
