Mumbai:
On the investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, which has captivated the nation with its many twists and turns, senior politician Sharad Pawar today questioned the “country’s obsession” with a case amid so many farmer suicides.
“Any suicide is sad. Why is the whole country obsessed with a case where so many farmers are committing suicide?” Said member Rajya Sabha, whose Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is part of the ruling coalition of Maharashtra.
Sharad Pawar’s comments have drawn attention at a time when the case has sown a political fight between the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government and the opposition BJP.
Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in her apartment in Mumbai on June 14. Although the Mumbai police investigated it as a suicide, the CBI took over the case after the actor’s family filed a case in Bihar by pointing fingers at his girlfriend Rhea. Chakraborty.
The IWC takeover, backed by the Supreme Court, was projected as a setback for the Mumbai police and the Maharashtra government. The BJP, which is part of the Bihar government, claimed a role in expanding investigations into the death of “a young son of Bihar.”
For Pawar, the case exposed a family rift. He had rejected a request from his great-nephew Parth Pawar for a CBI investigation. Parth, the son of Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar, also claimed victory when a CBI investigation was ordered.
The Maharashtra government appeared to have taken another blow in the battle of perception, in a confrontation with actor Kangana Ranaut.
Kangana Ranaut has accused Shiv Sena of Uddhav Thackeray, who controls the Mumbai civic body, of ordering a demolition of his office out of revenge; she had criticized the state government’s handling of the Sushant Rajput investigations and had compared Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
