The University Scholarship Commission, UGC has directed all universities to begin classes for the new sessions as of November 1, according to the revised academic calendar approved by UGC on Monday. Freshman classes for undergraduate and graduate courses can begin in November. Colleges have been asked to finalize the admissions schedule by November 30.

The alternate academic calendar released by UGC on April 29 suggested that freshman classes should start on September 1 and senior exams should take place from July 1 to July 15. However, due to the pandemic, the schedule had to be revised. and the higher education regulator ordered final exams of the year or final semester exams by the end of September.

But now, under the revised guidelines, the 2020-21 academic session can begin as of November 1 for freshmen. In case there is a delay in the declaration of results in the qualifying exam, the universities can plan and start the academic session before November 18. While speaking with the New Indian Express, the UGC vice president said there is no quick rule about holding classes online or offline.

The commission also added in the revised calendar that a full refund will be made on account of the cancellation of admissions / student migration until November 30. Thereafter, on cancellation / withdrawal of admissions until December 31, 2020, the full fee will be charged. of a student will be refunded in full after deduction of no more than Rs 1000 as processing fee.

Therefore, merit- or income-based admissions for UG / PG students must be completed by the end of October and the remaining vacancies must be filled by November 30.

In the meantime, UGC has also asked universities across the country to begin the provisional admission process. for undergraduate and graduate courses. The admission process to the UG / PG courses for the academic year 2020-21 already concluded on August 31, 2020. However, the Commission has ordered the provisional assignment to be made until September 30, 2020.
