Delhi Capitals all-rounder Marcus Stoinis emerged as the standout player in his first clash against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday. After saving his side with the bat, Stonis threw a brilliant finish and defended a run in the final three innings of the match. The game also featured a strong hit from Indian hitter Mayank Agarwal, scoring 89 of 60 deliveries.

However, a dazzling call from referee Nitin Menon diminished the brilliance of both players and many took to social media to point it out. Kings XI co-owner Preity Zinta also seemed furious with the decision and the Bollywood actress took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the incident. In her tweet, Zinta called BCCI asking the board to implement new rules in the sport, to avoid these mistakes in the near future.

Explained: Why IPL Third Referee Failed to Override ‘Short Term’ Decision Against KXIP’s Chris Jordan

“I traveled with enthusiasm during a pandemic, I did 6 days of quarantine and 5 covid tests with a smile, but that Short Run affected me a lot. What good is technology if it can’t be used? It’s time for @BCCI to introduce new rules. This cannot happen every year, ”he wrote in a tweet.

Preity was reacting to Virender Sehwag’s tweet saying that he should have been awarded Man of the Match for his short-term decision. Sehwag’s former teammates Irfan Pathan and Aakash Chopra also shared a similar opinion on the decision.

IPL 2020: collapse to Super Over, everything is happening in Dubai

The incident took place in the third installment of change 19, when Menon, standing on the square leg, judged a double taken by Mayank as invalid. Only one run was counted for the KXIP total as the umpire felt Chris Jordan did not hit his bat behind the crease while completing the first run.

However, the television reruns showed a different story, showing that Jordan had completed the race correctly. Later, this race turned out to be crucial, as KXIP suffered a loss after the contest was taken to the Super Over.
