The suspension of eight members of the Rajya Sabha reflects the autocratic mindset of the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, West Bengal Prime Minister and Supreme Trinamool Congress Supreme Mamata Banerjee tweeted on Monday.
“The suspension of the 8 deputies who fought to protect the interests of farmers is regrettable and reflects the mentality of this autocratic government that does not respect democratic norms and principles. We will not bow down and fight this fascist government in Parliament and on the streets, ”Banerjee tweeted.

The TMC deputy and the prime minister’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, also condemned the suspension. “What happened in Rajya Sabha is an absolute disregard for parliamentary procedures. The “pro-farmers” ordinances of the @narendramodi Ji government not only have fundamental flaws, but now the Center is taking away their right to vote on them! All that can be said is #BJPKilledDemocracy, ”he tweeted.
Eight members, including two Trinamool congressmen Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen, were suspended for a week on Monday because of chaos in the House Sunday during the passage of the two farm bills.
The Upper Chamber approved the Draft Law on Trade in Agricultural Products and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) of 2020, and the Agreement for the Guarantee of Prices and Agricultural Services of the Agreement of Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) of 2020.
Members of the opposition, including those of the TMC, Congress and the left, created an uproar after Vice President Harivansh failed to consider their demand for a split of votes in a resolution to send the two bills to a select committee.
