Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has said that Ravichandran Ashwin told him he was fine and “ready” for the next match, despite a shoulder injury on the field that looked much worse at the time.
“I spoke with Ashwin briefly, and he says he will be ready for the next game, but in the end, the physical therapist will decide,” Iyer said in the post-game presentation.
The off course was injured while diving with the last ball he had, and immediately felt a lot of pain. There was a grimace on his face as he walked off the field, clutching his left shoulder. He was soon seen with his left arm in a sling, while commentators spoke of a possible shoulder dislocation.
If the injury isn’t as bad as it initially seemed, and if Ashwin makes it to DC’s next game, against CSK on September 25 in Dubai, it will be a huge boost for Iyer’s side.
After all, Ashwin was what turned the game around before Mayank Agarwal pulled KXIP out of a quagmire. In his first appearance against the team he led last season, Ashwn chose a wicket first ball, firing Karun Nair with a compelling delivery that the Karnataka hitter edged Prithvi Shaw short-fine. He then landed a ball to break the big gap on Nicholas Pooran’s bat-pad to put DC on the mat.
After the backwards heist they pulled off in their season opener, DC now has a four-day break to rest and recover before taking on the three-time champions.
