Haryana farmers’ organizations blocked roads to protest the contentious farm ordinances on Sunday.
Police used water cannons when protesters resorted to stone-throwing on the Chandigarh-Delhi highway.
Haryana police used a water cannon to prevent activists from the Punjab Youth Congress from entering the state through Ambala during a tractor demonstration against the Center’s agriculture-related bills.
Youth Congress activists were heading to Delhi via the Chandigarh-Delhi highway when police stopped them at the heavily barricaded entrance to Haryana.
The situation on the Haryana-Punjab border became tense as the protesters stood firm in continuing their march towards the national capital.
Some activists tried to set fire to a tractor after the march stopped.

In Hisar, farmers blocked the toll plaza near the town of Mayyar on the National Highway. DC Priyanka Soni and SP Ganga Ram Punia came to the toll plaza to chat with the agitated farmers who plan to block the road in support of their demands.
Farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Haryana blocked National Highway (NH) 73 at Barwala in Panchkula district on Sunday.
Farmers are resorting to dhanas and roadblocks in various places in Jind. The Jind-Delhi highway has been blocked in Julana. In Charkhi Dadri district, farmers blocked Dadri Kanina Road.
In Kaithal, hundreds of farmers blocked the road near Titram Mor to show their resentment against the three farm and farm bills.
In Rohtak, farmers and arhtiyas would hold a protest march in the city at noon. They will also present the memorandum to DC at noon, “The protest march will be organized peacefully and there is no road blocking plan,” says Preet Singh, district president, Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sabha (ABKS).
In Sirsa, farmers’ organizations have decided to block the road in the villages of Panjuana and Jamaal. The Sirsa administration has deployed the appropriate forces and appointed 25 magistrates to watch over the farmers’ protest rally.
In Karnal, fShipowners have started gathering at the Assandh grain market to protest. Hundreds of farmers and commission agents began their agitation at the Karnal grain market.
In Jind, the BKU has announced to block the road for three hours from 12 to 3 in the afternoon. Farmers blocked the road in Kandela village of Jind district to protest against the central ordinances. Kandela village has been the center of farmer unrest in the past, especially during the Om Prakash Chautala regime.
Jind DSP Dharambir Singh has urged farmers to hold the demonstration peacefully. The police will act on any violation of the law, he warned the activists.
