A yellow alert was issued for Monday with a forecast of heavy rain in isolated areas or thunderstorms accompanied by lightning with gusty winds.

“Active monsoon conditions and improved rainfall activity through September 22 due to the development of a low pressure area over the northeast of the Bay of Bengal, which will strengthen surface-level winds and their convergence along the coast West, “said KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General, Western Region, India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Although a yellow alert had also been sounded for Sunday, there was no rain throughout the day between 8.30am and 5.30pm. In the last 24 hours, between 8.30 a.m. on Saturday and 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, the Santacruz meteorological observatory recorded 12.4 mm of rain while Colaba received 2.8 mm of rain.

“While light to moderate rains were recorded during the 24 hours ending Sunday in Mumbai and Thane, the northern suburbs of Mira Bhayander received heavy rains. Heavy rains are expected across the north and south of Konkan and isolated areas in the interior of Maharashtra on Monday and Tuesday, ”said Hosalikar.

The drop in rain activity led to an increase in temperatures on Sunday, as Santacruz recorded the maximum temperature at 32.4 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees Celsius above normal, while Colaba recorded the daytime temperature. close to the normal mark.
