In a tweet as dramatic as today’s events in the Upper House, Gandhi also said that the government had issued “execution orders” against farmers by passing these bills.

“Farmers grow gold from the land, but the arrogance of the Modi government makes them shed tears of blood,” said Rahul Gandhi, who accompanied his mother, party chief Sonia Gandhi, abroad as she undergoes medical examinations from routine.

“Democracy has been embarrassed by the way the government passed execution orders against farmers in the form of two agricultural bills in Rajya Sabha,” he added.

Earlier today, in a tweet posted ahead of the Rajya Sabha uproar, Gandhi called the bills “black laws against agriculture” and questioned the government on its claims to continue with a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural products. .

“Why was MSP not guaranteed?” Gandhi asked, repeating a question posed yesterday by party colleague P Chidambaram, who said there was no clause binding the MSP to the lowest price.

Chaos and confrontation marked the passage of the bills through the Rajya Sabha today, with opposition MPs rushing the House Well in protest.

Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien, who was seen waving a copy of the rule book in the vice president’s face, called it a “murder of democracy.”

Others, including former HD Prime Minister Deve Gowda, demanded to know why they rushed to pass the bills without consulting farmers or a review committee. Congressman Partap Singh Bajwa also called the bills “death sentences” and said: “Farmers are not illiterate. They understand that this is a way to end the MSP …”

Meanwhile, while there was unrest in the parliament, Haryana farmers had gathered in large numbers to protest the bills, forcing the police to use force to disperse them.

The government has said the bills will allow farmers to obtain competitive prices for their products. Tweeting after the bills were passed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi insisted that the MSP would continue.

“I said it before and I say it once again: the MSP system will remain. Public procurement will continue,” said the Prime Minister.

Farmers, however, have not been reassured by verbal assurances, a point made by Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who resigned as Union minister in protest.

The two bills that were passed today only need the consent of President Ram Nath Kovind to become law, something that Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, whose party broke ranks with the BJP camp to oppose, appealed against. law projects.
