Twelve opposition parties on Sunday filed a motion of no confidence against Rajya Sabha’s Vice President Harivansh on how he two contentious farm laws they were approved in the Upper House after he dismissed their pleas for a postponement of the proceedings.
Parties include Congress, All India Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, CPI, CPM, Nationalist Congress Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, National Conference, DMK, and the Aam Aadmi Party.
The Bills, which seek to replace the two ordinances promulgated on June 5 of this year and which were already approved by the Lok Sabha, were approved by voice in the Upper House.

“He (Harivansh) should safeguard democratic traditions, but instead, his attitude today damages democratic traditions and processes. So we have decided to file a motion of no confidence against him, ”Congressman Rajya Sabha Ahmed Patel told reporters outside parliament.
TMC MP Derek O’Brien also accused the government of “murdering” the parliamentary system and democracy.

Earlier in the day, Rajya Sabha witnessed tumultuous scenes during the passage of agricultural laws when members of opposition parties stole and threw papers from the table and even broke the president’s microphone.
JD (U) leader Harivansh was re-elected as Vice Speaker of the Upper House on September 14, the first day of the current Monsoon Session.
