Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has named KL Rahul as the possible candidate to take over as captain of the Indian cricket team from Virat Kohli. Gavaskar said that Rahul now has a great opportunity to show that he can score runs under pressure and therefore can become vice-captain of the team.

“There is a great opportunity for KL Rahul to show that he can score runs when given the responsibility. Second, he can show that he is capable of captaining a team and how he shapes his team and extracts effort. If he does well, even he can become the vice-captain of the Indian team, ”Gavaskar told Sports Tak.

“There are still players on the Indian team like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane. But in the future, he may be an option for the selection committee and he may also become the future captain of India. So this can be a great tournament for KL Rahul as a skipper, ”added Little Master.
KL Rahul has had a sensational year until the lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic brought the game to a standstill. Rahul will lead Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League played in the United Arab Emirates.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra seconded Little Master’s opinion.
“I am hopeful that his (Rahul’s) captaincy is good. In fact, we will have an idea of his captaincy, how he handles the game, what strategies he uses. If we see Kohli and Rohit, they are the same age and at some point you can feel that they are no longer captain material, ”Chopra said while answering questions from fans in a video shared on her Facebook page.
“As they say, there comes a time when you have to pass the baton like MS Dhoni did to Kohli and Kohli will also have to do it with someone at some point. When he does, Rahul may be next in line.” Chopra added.
