BSF foils Pakistan’s attempt to smuggle drugs, arms and ammunition into Jammu


Alert Border Security Force (BSF) personnel foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons, ammunition and narcotics into India from Pakistan at Arnia along the 198 km international border (IB) in the RS Pura sector of Jammu, division from the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) during the middle night of Saturday and Sunday.

“The shipment comprising 62 drug packages, two pistols and four magazines was being pushed through a pipe near the Budhwar post around 2 am Sunday,” said NS Jamwal, Inspector General (IG), BSF, Jammu.

BSF troops deployed to the Budhwar and Bullechak posts observed a suspicious movement of around four Pakistani nationals near the IB during the intermediate night of Saturday and Sunday and shot them.

“About four Pakistanis made a quick withdrawal. Their contacts must also have been on the Indian side, which may have also escaped after the troops’ shooting, ”said Jamwal.

The officer said the searches began at first light Sunday.

“We recovered 62 packages of narcotics, probably containing heroin, two pistols, four clips and some ammunition,” he said.

“The drugs have yet to be tested. Pakistan generally tries to push heroin, ”he added.

Earlier on Friday, security forces had arrested three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu Division, after they had collected a shipment of arms and ammunition and 1 lakh of rupees in cash. that dropped a Pakistani drone.

On 20 June, the security forces shot down a Pakistani drone loaded with weapons in Rathua, in the Hiranagar sector of the Kathua district.

BSF authorities had also detected a cross-border tunnel in the Samba sector of the Jammu division.

Drugs and cash sent via hawala are part of Pakistan’s strategy to boost narco-terrorism at J&K.
