In a disgusting incident, a father of five daughters here allegedly tore open his pregnant wife’s stomach on Saturday night, supposedly to find out if she was going to give birth to a son this time.
Pannalal cut the stomach of his wife, around 35 years old, with a sharp-edged weapon in the town of Nekpur, below the Civil Lines police station area, seriously injuring her, said senior (city) police official Pravin Singh Chauhan.
An FIR was filed and the husband was arrested, Chauhan said, adding that the reasons behind the crime are being investigated.
The woman’s family, who was rushed to a Bareilly hospital in serious condition, alleged that Pannalal wanted a child and committed the crime to find out whether it was a male or female fetus.
The locals immediately took the woman to the district hospital from where she was sent to Bareilly hospital in serious condition.
