In a call given by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Haryana farmers will organize roadblocks to protest against agricultural laws on Sunday. The Khattar government has instructed developing countries and SPs to deal with protesters with “tact and patience.”

Question of justice

I am proud that when the hour of reckoning came, my party, as always, raised the banner of justice for farmers, other exploited sectors —Parkash Singh Badal, SAD

Agricultural organizations led by BKU State President Gurnam Singh Charuni have called for a three-hour lockdown from 12 noon to 3 pm. The government had faced criticism for its handling of the Kisan demonstration in Pipli on September 11. This time, he has asked his officials to exercise restraint.

The Additional Chief Secretary, Home, has written to the commissioners, IG, CD and SP to ensure that no one takes justice into their own hands. “Organizers must be persuaded to register their protest peacefully and legally and to desist from blocking roads,” the letter says.

In Moga, Punjab, 30 agricultural agencies gathered today. Joginder Singh Ugrahan, president of BKU (Ekta), said there would be a “complete shutdown” in the state on September 25. “Trains will stop at specific locations,” he added.
