Anand Mahindra to give a tractor to Bihar farmer who dug a 3 km canal in 30 years

The man who single-handedly built a 3-kilometer-long tunnel in 30 years to irrigate his parched farmland has won a recognition award from Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra. Impressed by the Herculean effort made by Laungi Bhuyian, a farmer from the Gaya district of Bihar, Mahindra has decided to let him use a Mahindra tractor to use in agriculture.

Anand Mahindra took to Twitter to help Laungi Bhuyian. In response to a message requesting help for the farmer, Anand Mahindra wrote: “As you know, I had tweeted that I think his channel is as impressive a monument as the Taj or the Pyramids. At @MahindraRise we would consider it an honor to have him use our tractor. “

He also went on to ask the Bhuyian messenger on Twitter to contact the Mahindra team to have the tractor delivered to the farmer.

Recently, Bhuyian attracted a lot of attention for completing the 3 km long canal to carry rainwater coming down from the nearby hills to the fields of his village, Kothilawa, in the Lahthua area of Gaya. His feat is reminiscent of Dashrath Manjhi, a resident of Bihar, who took 22 years to carve a road in the hills after his wife died falling from the mountain.

Speaking to the ANI news agency, he said: “It took me 30 years to dig this canal that brings water to a pond in the town.”

“For the past 30 years, I was going to the nearby jungle to tend my cattle and dig the canal. No one joined me in this effort … Villagers go to cities to earn a living, but I decided to stay behind,” was cited by ANI.

The main means of subsistence of the population here are agriculture and livestock.

According to the local journalist, through whom Bhuyian passed his message on Twitter, the farmer wanted nothing more than a tractor to plow his field. Anand Mahindra not only responded to Bhuyian’s request but said it would be an honor to provide him with a Mahindra tractor to help him farm with ease.
