Speaking in Parliament for the first time since his release from detention, the Chairman of the National Conference and MP Farooq Abdullah on Saturday defended talks with Pakistan, saying that if India can talk to China to deactivate its border row, it can also talk to his other neighbor to deal with the situation on the borders of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Border skirmishes have been on the rise and people are dying… A way has to be found to deal with this. Except for the talks … While talking to China to try to get it to withdraw (from the Ladakh border), we should also talk to our (other) neighbor to find a way out of this situation, ”he said in Lok Sabha during the Zero hour amid protests from the treasury banks.
The Srinagar deputy also expressed his joy at the results of an Army investigation into the murder of three men in Shopian in a meeting.
“I am glad that the army has admitted that three Shopian men were mistakenly killed. I hope the government will give considerable compensation, ”he said.
Authorities had said on Friday that the Army had found “prima facie” evidence that its troops “exceeded” the powers under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act during the July meeting and has initiated disciplinary proceedings.
Abdullah said that Jammu and Kashmir has not seen any progress and spoke about the authorities blocking 4G facilities in the Union Territory, which, he added, is against the interests of students and merchants.
He also expressed his gratitude to the parliamentarians for speaking on his behalf when he was detained.
Abdullah and many other leaders were detained by the authorities last year after the Union government repealed Article 370, which had given the former state special powers, and divided Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. He was released in March of this year.
