New York: A mass shooting broke out in New York at midnight on Friday, where at least 16 people have suffered gunshot wounds, local officials and witnesses have confirmed. The emergency services have taken action.

The shooting began around 12:30 am Saturday and officers received calls to 911 (emergency relief) from an area near Goodman Street and Pennsylvania Avenue; a large crowd had gathered in the area.

Preliminary reports indicated that at least 8 to 12 people have suffered gunshot wounds and two people have been pronounced dead at the scene. However, police have yet to confirm the exact number of victims, according to reports.

The status of the shooter or shooters is still unknown.

Valentina Delva (18) of Indianapolis was pronounced dead after the shooting around 1:55 a.m. where a college party was taking place, Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen said, according to the news agency. Associated Press.

Two men at the party were also shot, but were treated at a hospital for their non-life-threatening injuries.

Delva was sitting in the front seat of a car driving near the scene of the shooting when she was hit in the crossfire, Keen added.
