Delhi police said on Saturday they have arrested a Chinese woman and a Nepalese man for their alleged involvement in the spy ring involving New Delhi-based journalist Rajeev Sharma, who has been arrested for allegedly passing classified information to China. .
Police confirmed Friday night that Sharma, a Pitampura resident, was arrested for spying for China. The police have registered a case under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) against Sharma and Chinese and Nepalese citizens have been arrested on the same charges, said Deputy Police Commissioner (special cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
“Special Cell arrested an independent journalist Rajeev Sharma for passing sensitive information to Chinese intelligence. A Chinese lady and her Nepalese partner were also arrested for paying her large amounts of money sent through shell companies. Chinese intelligence tasked the journalist with transmitting confidential information in lieu of large amounts of money. A large number of mobile phones, laptop computers and other incriminating / sensitive material have been recovered, ”Yadav said.
Delhi police will hold a press conference at 3.30pm on Saturday on the case.
Sharma was arrested on September 14. Police said they found him in possession of confidential defense documents.

Sharma was brought before a city court on September 15, after which he was placed in police custody for 6 days. He has also submitted a request for bail that will be heard on September 22. Sharma has worked with a Punjab-based English language newspaper and news agency in the past.
