In its Unlock 4 guidelines, the Interior Ministry allowed states to reopen schools as of September 21 if states decide to resume educational activities. The reopening of schools as of September 21 is not mandatory and several states have decided not to do so, given the growing number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
States that have already made a decision on resuming classes
Assam: Starting Monday, classes will resume for students between classes 9 and 12 for the next 15 days from which the situation will be reviewed.
Haryana: As in Delhi, seniors can visit their schools if they need guidance, but the schools will remain closed. Two public schools in Karnal and Sonepat in Haryana have already been opened on a trial basis. They divided the students into groups according to color codes to help them and their teachers maintain social distancing.
Andhra Pradesh: Only public, private, and assisted educational institutions outside of the containment zones will be reopened.
In Delhi, schools will be closed until October 5, the government said on Friday. Previously, it had decided to allow seniors (classes 9-12) to attend schools for teacher orientation only if their parents allow it. But now he has clarified that there will be no partial reopening of schools in Delhi before October 5.
Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand will not resume classes. J&K schools will partially reopen beginning Sept. 21, according to reports.
In its directive issued for the reopening of schools, the Center made it mandatory for all schools to have heat guns on the doors of schools to control the temperature of both students and staff. Aside from full sanitation, the mandatory provision of masks and disinfectants, schools have been asked to operate only at 50 per capacity. Online classes would continue even if physical classes were to resume, the Center said, as not all students will attend physical classes every day.
