India’s First Exclusive Private Jet Terminal Opens at Delhi IGI Airport

India opened its first dedicated private jet terminal to serve the world’s fastest growing ultra-wealthy population. The new terminal at Indira Gandhi International Airport will allow the movement of 150 aircraft daily, Delhi International Airport Ltd. said in a statement. The new terminal will be able to handle more than 50 passengers per hour.

India’s ultra rich population

This will facilitate the movement of business jets and chartered jets, a long-pending demand from Indian billionaires seeking friendlier skies with a network of private jets-only airports. India’s ultra-wealthy population has grown 116% in the five years to 2018 and is expected to increase 37% by 2023, according to Knight Frank.

Beat the rush

An exclusive wing will allow private jets to avoid the rush at passenger terminals. India’s business jet fleet is expected to expand more than 900% to 1,320 aircraft by 2033, according to estimates by Bombardier Inc.

For a safer trip

The use of private jets is also expected to receive a boost due to the coronavirus pandemic, as the super-rich prefer chartered flights for safer travel. Executive jets can also be used as air ambulances and can fly to remote areas. It can also make India more investor-friendly as Prime Minister Narendra Modi attracts companies to come to India.
