The Indian military prevented a Pulwama-style terror attack by recovering 52 kg of explosives on Thursday in the Kashmir area, which is not far from the site of last year’s attack, army officials said. They said the site where the explosives were recovered was near the Jammu and Kashmir highway and only nine kilometers from the site of the Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
“We have prevented another Pulwama-type attack,” said an Army official.
Officials said the explosives were found in a Syntex water tank in the Karewa area of Gadikal during a search operation around 8 a.m.
“There were 416 packages of explosives and each of them weighed 125 grams,” said an official, adding that another 50 detonators were recovered from another Syntex tank in the area in subsequent searches. The explosives are called “Super-90” or S-90 in short, the official said.
On February 14 of last year, a suicide bomber had rammed a car filled with explosives into a security convoy, killing the paramilitaries.
Recently, the National Investigation Agency said in its charge sheet that Pakistan-based terrorist Masood Azhar and his brother Rauf Asghar were the main conspirators behind the Pulwama attack.
