The Gujarat government has decided not to reopen schools from September 21 in light of the COVID-19 situation in the state, Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said on Wednesday.
The state government made the decision “in the interest of the students” during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar, the Education Minister said.
In announcing the “Unlock-4” guidelines earlier this month, the Center clarified that the last call to reopen schools from September 21 for classes 9 to 12 will be taken by the respective states, Chudasama told the journalists.
According to the Center’s SOPs, students can visit schools for teacher orientation beginning Sept. 21 with their parents’ permission, he said.
“The Center had clarified that it is not mandatory for states to implement these SOPs as of September 21. There is a risk of transmission of the virus if students gather in one place. It is not recommended that students visit schools in the current situation, “he added. said the minister.
Therefore, the state government has decided not to reopen schools as of September 21 and the appropriate decision will be made once the situation improves, he said, adding that online education will continue in the state.
