Section 144 Mumbai: Mumbai Police Issue Banning Orders September 16-30 | Mumbai News


MUMBAI: Mumbai residents panicked after news on social media that city police issued prohibition orders under the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr PC) 144 to curb the increase in coronavirus cases in the city . The order stated that as Mumbai is witnessing another increase in the number of daily cases of Covid-19, in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus, section 144 of CrPC was imposed in the city from September 16 to 30. .
DCP (operations) Shahji Umap has issued the order indicating that any presence or movement of one or more people in public places or meetings will be prohibited until the aforementioned date. However, the supply of essential goods, services and medical emergencies will not be affected by the order. Additionally, the reopening guidelines announced by the state government on August 31 under the ‘Mission Begin Again’ will also continue in effect.
Umap said the issued warrant is a mere extension of previous warrants (issued Aug. 31) and that the police have not imposed new or new restrictions.

Maharashtra government cabinet minister for tourism and environment Aaditya Thakeray tweeted: “There is NO need to panic. The order issued under section 144 CrPC is just an extension of the previous order issued on August 31. @MumbaiPolice has not imposed any new restrictions ”.
