New Delhi:
The fight against coronavirus was not a political fight but a fight to save people’s lives, Shiv Sena’s leader Sanjay Raut said in parliament as he defended the Maharashtra government’s efforts to contain the pandemic that has affected more than 10 lakh people in the state. The state government had managed to control the spread of the pandemic in slum groups like Dharavi, an effort that had attracted recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO), Raut said.
These recoveries did not occur by eating “Bhabhi ji papad,” the Seine leader commented sarcastically, apparently referring to the assertion by Union Minister and BJP leader Arjun Ram Meghwal in July that the papad brand had the ability to develop antibodies. against the coronavirus in the country. Body. Later, Mr. Meghwal tested positive for the virus.
Shiv Sena’s deputy said that although the state’s confirmed cases were the highest, it had managed to successfully cure most of those infected with the deadly virus.
“My mother and brother are infected with Covid. More than 30,000 people have recovered from COVID in Maharashtra. How did it happen? Today, the situation in Dharavi is under control. WHO has appreciated the efforts of BMC,” Raut said in the Rajya Sabha.
Despite these efforts, Raut said, the opposition was only concerned with criticizing the state government.
“I want to ask the members how so many people recovered. Kya log bhabhi ji ke papad kha karke theek ho gaye? (Did they recover by eating Bhabhiji daddy (snack)? This is not a political fight, but a fight to save people’s lives, “he said referring to Meghawal.
Meghawal’s party, the BJP, has been at the forefront in criticizing the state government for its handling of the COVID-19 crisis with opposition leader in the Maharashtra Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, claiming that Uddhav Thackeray’s government I was trying to slow down the number. of tests to show that the pandemic has been controlled in the state.
Mr. Fadnavis has also stated that all government decisions taken so far were only on paper, while the situation on the ground was different. He has also alleged that the giant facilities established to treat COVID-19 patients were mired in corruption and have not benefited those in need.
“The government has to understand that there is an increase in the percentage of spread of the virus,” he noted. It also targeted the government for incidents of atrocities against women in COVID-19 care centers.
Maharashtra, which still accounts for nearly a quarter of new daily cases, reported 23,365 new infections on Wednesday.
This morning, India’s Covid count crossed the 51 lakh mark, as the country reported 97,894 new cases in the past 24 hours. More than 11 lakh of these cases are from Maharashtra.
