On the statement of actor Rakulpreet linked to a drug case, judicial notice to the center

Rakulpreet Singh was one of the actors appointed by Rhea Chakraborty to the Bureau of Narcotics Control (NCB).

New Delhi:

The Delhi High Court today requested the center’s response to actor Rakulpreet Singh’s request to stop media reports linking her to the Rhea Chakraborty drug case. The actress, in her petition, had claimed that media reports connected her to the case despite Ms. Chakraborty retracting the statement in which she was allegedly named.

The media reports are being published in contravention of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting guidelines, the 29-year-old actress, represented by lawyer Aman Hingorani, said in her petition.

The court has issued notices to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Association of News Broadcasters (NBA) and the Press Council of India, requesting their position on her request.

He also expressed his hope that “the media will show restraint in their reporting and abide by cable television standards, the program code, and various guidelines, statutory and self-regulatory, when making any reports regarding the petitioner” (Rakulpreet Singh) .

The court also asked the authorities to treat his statement as a representation and make a decision on it before the next hearing date on October 15.

Rakulpreet Singh was among the list of actors named by actor Rhea Chakraborty during the investigation by the Bureau of Narcotics Control (NCB).

Ms. Chakraborty, who has been arrested by the NCB, reportedly said that 15 Bollywood celebrities grade B were drug buyers while some were drug users.

The Hindi film industry has faced strong criticism following the arrest of Ms Chakraborty by the NCB, which is investigating the drug angle following the death of actor Sushant Rajput.

The government, however, has said there were no “actionable inputs” on any nexus between the people of the film industry and the drug traffickers.
