TIRUPATI: Tirupati Balli MP Durga Prasad Rao (64), who recently became infected with the new coronavirus and was being treated in a private hospital in Chennai for multiple health ailments, suffered cardiac arrest and passed away on Wednesday.
Balli Durga Prasad, hailing from a quiet Bhimavaram village in Nayudupet mandal of Nellore district, was elected from the Gudur assembly headquarters in Nellore district for the first time in 1985 and went on to serve the people of the constituency of Gudur four times. He was appointed Cabinet Minister during N Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure as Prime Minister of the United State of Andhra Pradesh between 1996 and 1998.
After the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh, Balli Durga Prasad passed to the YSR congressional party and was nominated to contest the Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general election, which he successfully won.
Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed shock at the sudden disappearance of his party MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao. The prime minister personally called the relatives of the deceased deputy and expressed his deepest condolences.
