A special CBI court set September 30 as the date for the verdict in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case involving 32 defendants, including BJP veterans LK Advani, MM Joshi, Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar. The court will issue its verdict after 27 years. The date was set by order of the Supreme Court that had requested that the sentence be handed down before September 30.
Advani, Joshi, Bharti and Kalyan Singh have been asked to be present in court.
The higher court, which had previously set August 31 as the deadline to complete the proceedings, including the delivery of the verdict, took note of the report presented by special judge SK Yadav in the high-profile case.
A court of judges RF Nariman, Navin Sinha and Indira Banerjee said: “Having read the report of Surendra Kumar Yadav, learned special judge, and considering that the proceedings are at the end, we grant a month of time, that is, until the 30th of September 2020, to complete the process, including the issuance of judgment. “
The order was approved on August 19 and was recently uploaded to the supreme court’s website.
