Kangana Ranaut seeks Rs 2 crore from BMC for damaging her bungalow

Mumbai: Actress Kangana Ranaut modified her petition pending before the Bombay High Court and requested compensation of Rs 2 million for “almost 40% damage” to her office in Mumbai during the demolition carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC) on September 9.

She alleged that the action was initiated for her stance against a leader of Maharashtra’s ruler Shiv Sena. As the same party also heads the civic body, it was misused to carry out the demolition, she added.

Ranaut has been at odds with the state government ever since he criticized the Mumbai police’s handling of the investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. He referred to Mumbai as “Pakistani-Occupied Kashmir” and “Pakistan” and sparked a political controversy. The ruling alliance of the state has accused her of carrying out the political agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ranaut received security from the Center governed by the BJP in the middle of her dispute with the leaders of the Seine.

The petition says that the presence of BMC personnel and police officers outside the facility on September 9, even before civic authorities rejected their response to the work stoppage notice, showed that the action was premeditated and taken with “malicious intentions. ”.

The actress said the BMC claim, in response to her petition challenging the demolition, did not have adequate evidence and was arbitrary. It added that the civic body’s claim that it found 14 alterations and additions to the property during the Sept. 7 inspection was not substantiated by adequate evidence. Ranaut dismissed the notice as “illegal” and “illicit” and added that it deserved to be annulled.

The petition says that his lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee, visited the premises on September 9 to give the officer present a copy of his petition and inform him that it would be heard. He added that the officer closed the door from the inside and continued with the demolition.

Ranaut said that valuable properties such as chandeliers and rare works of art were damaged. She sought interim relief to make the necessary arrangements to make the property “usable” after demolition.

Mumbai High Court suspended the demolition of the actor’s alleged unauthorized structures on September 9 hours after the BMC began the exercise. He said the BMC action “prima facie did not appear to be genuine and smelled of bad faith.” The court ordered the civic body to submit an affidavit in response to Ranaut’s request for provisional relief from the suspension of the demolition work.
