Actor Jaya Bachchan, who is also a member of the Rajya Sabha (RS) of the Samajwadi Party (SP), said in Parliament on Tuesday that the government must back the entertainment industry at a time when it is being unfairly targeted due to the actions of some people.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour on RS, he said the government must offer protection to the film industry and not kill it. “Just because there are few people, you can’t tarnish the image of the industry,” she said.

She added: “The entertainment industry has always stepped up to support the government and whatever good work it does. They support the country. If there is a natural calamity, they donate money and also offer their services. The industry brings international fame. ”
He made the remarks at a time when the film industry is under the spotlight for the alleged suicide death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14.
Rajput’s death followed a tug of war between the Maharashtra and Bihar governments and central investigative agencies over the investigation of the high-profile case.
Ravi Kishan, Member of Parliament (MP) from Gorakhpur’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and actor, said he hoped Bachchan would support his views.
“I was hoping that Jayaji would support what he had said. Not everyone in the industry uses drugs. But those who do are part of a plan to take down the world’s largest film industry. When Jayaji and I joined the industry, the situation was not like that. Now, we need to protect the industry, ”said the actor-turned-politician.
