New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Monday requested an unconditional apology from All India Trinamool Congress Member Saugata Roy for her comment on the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Deputy Dum Dum’s comments were deleted from the record.

Saugata Roy made the comments while arguing against the Lok Sabha Banking Regulation Amendment Bill. Speaking in defense of the bill, Sitharaman said: “If only Saugata Roy could listen rather than comment on other factors.”

Later, Pralhad Joshi, while speaking in Parliament, said: “Commenting on personal dress… being a high-ranking member, what are you talking about? You should unconditionally apologize. It’s an insult to women. “

Earlier today, the Lok Sabha adopted a motion to eliminate Question Time and private member business during the monsoon session of parliament, which began today. The Monsoon Session, which takes place amid the COVID-19 pandemic, will continue until October 1.

The Opposition led by Congress criticized the measure, calling Question Hour the “golden hour of the House.”

Meanwhile, for the first time in history, MPs who attended the Lok Sabha proceedings were allowed to speak while sitting in their seats. This was done as a step to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“All legislators in this Monsoon Session will speak first from their seats without standing up. The initiative was taken in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” said Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla. Previously, all deputies used to stand before speaking in Parliament as a sign of respect for the presidency.

Before the start of the Monsoon Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media and said: “The Monsoon Session starts today, there is crown and there is responsibility. All parliamentarians have chosen the path of responsibility, they thank you all for doing so. Budget Session had to be stopped midway, this time also Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha schedules had to be changed. Weekdays holidays on Saturday, Sunday had to be revoked “.

He further stated: “There will be many important decisions in this session, discussions will take place. It is our experience that the more intense and diverse the discussion in Parliament, the more benefits the country will obtain. This time we will all add value as well. We will all have it. to follow the guidelines issued in view of the coronavirus situation. “
