New Delhi:
The leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, who has been constantly criticizing the government for its handling of the pandemic, attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again this morning when he said that the people of the country have to “save their own lives because the first Minister is busy with the peacock “amid sharp increase in coronavirus cases.
“India’s coronavirus cases will cross 50 lakh this week and active cases will cross 10 lakh. The unplanned lockdown was the gift of one man’s ego, leading to the spread of the coronavirus across the country. Modi said “be self-sufficient (atmanirbhar) “… which meant ‘saving their own lives’ because the prime minister is busy with the peacock,” the 50-year-old MP from Wayanad in Kerala wrote in Hindi, referring to Prime Minister Modi’s call for ‘self-reliance’ .
In a single tweet, he attacked the Prime Minister for the spike in Covid cases and accused the government of implementing the shutdown without a plan. He also referred to a video that PM Modi shared last month on his official Instagram account. The video, shared with a poem in Hindi, shows Prime Minister Modi spending time with peacocks at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence. The prime minister is seen in the clip feeding a kettle inside his residence and performing morning exercises in other images.
Gandhi, who is missing the first part of the monsoon session of parliament that began today, has often said that the government’s unplanned coronavirus lockdown resulted in loss of life and put thousands of people out of work.
Gandhi went abroad last week with his mother and the head of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, for his annual checkup.
Last month, he had tweeted that he was right about the Covid count hitting the 20 lakh mark for August 10.
However, the government has downplayed his criticism. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar had mocked him for his “daily” tweets. “Rahul Gandhi is tweeting on a daily basis. It looks like Congress is going to turn into a tweet party as they don’t do any work among the people and lose one leader after another. A frustrated and depressed party is trying to launch all kinds of attacks on the government, “Javadekar said.
India’s coronavirus cases have passed the 48 lakh mark with 92,071 new cases reported in the past 24 hours and 1,136 Covid-related deaths, government data showed this morning.
