Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday that he will take steps to get the Supreme Court to suspend implementation of the 2018 law that granted reservations to the Maratha community on education and job vacancies. A statement from the Office of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra (OCM) said united action will be taken with all stakeholders.

On Sunday, Udhhav Thackeray held a review meeting with members of the cabinet subcommittee, legal experts and bureaucrats on the situation of law and order arising due to the court order, admissions to educational courses and the recruitment process.

“In today’s meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, we discussed issues related to the Maratha reserve. At the meeting, it was decided that a decision on the Maratha reserve would be made after everyone was confident. It will be taken. a decision after discussing it with LoP Devendra Fadnavis and other interested parties, “said Ashok Chavan, head of Maratha’s reserve subcommittee, ANI news agency reported.

Assuring the community of the government’s commitment, Thackeray also reminded the Maratha community not to gather in large numbers during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, as the government was with the community and would go to court again for this. . “I want to tell the mothers and sisters, our feelings are the same as theirs. Fighting injustice yes, but this is your government, so what is the need to take to the streets,” Thackeray said.

The prime minister said that opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis has assured the government of cooperation in waging the legal battle to get the suspension overturned.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court suspended the implementation of the law, while clarifying that the situation of those who have benefited from the benefits will not be altered.
