Government protocol for recovered covid patients

NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Health issued on Sunday management protocols for patients who have recovered from covid-19 and suggested following an alternative medicinal system that includes the intake of Chyawanprash and Ayush medications and the practice of yoga asanas to increase immunity.

Recovered patients may continue to report a wide variety of signs and symptoms including fatigue, body aches, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, etc., he said. A holistic approach is required for the follow-up care and well-being of all patients in post-covid recovery, the ministry said.

The government suggested drinking an adequate amount of warm water and taking Ayush medications to boost immunity, which must be prescribed by a qualified physician.

The document provides an integrated holistic approach to managing patients who have recovered enough from covid to receive care at home. “It is not intended to be used as preventive / curative therapy. The recovery period is likely to be longer for patients who suffered a more severe form of the disease and those with pre-existing conditions, “the government said.

The use of a mask, hand and respiratory hygiene, and physical distancing should be followed by patients who have recovered, he added.

The protocols ask for a control of your own health at home: temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar (especially if you are diabetic), pulse oximetry, etc. (if recommended by a doctor). “If there is a persistent dry cough / sore throat, gargle with saline and inhale steam. Adding herbs / spices for gargling / steam inhalation. Cough medicine should be taken with the advice of a doctor or a qualified Ayush practitioner, “he said.

The government also asked recovered patients to participate in group sessions of yoga, meditation, etc., taking all due precautions, such as physical distancing.

The protocol comes at a time when India is witnessing various post-covid complications in some cases. Union Interior Minister Amit Shah was admitted to the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Saturday.

“Shri Amit Shah, Honorable Minister of the Interior was discharged from AIIMS, New Delhi, after Covid post-care on August 30. Based on discharge advice, he has now been admitted for a full medical check-up before the session of parliament for 1-2 days “. the first medical institute said in an official statement.

The 55-year-old leader tested positive for COVID-19 on August 2 and then his test came back negative, but due to some post-COVID-19 recovery symptoms, such as fatigue, he was re-admitted to the main medical institute. Shah was also treated for post-covid care at a private hospital in Gurugram last month.
