Chicken biryani paneer thali is probably on the menu this monsoon session

A paneer thali with chapati, sweets, dal, pickles and Jeera rice for Rs 105, a South Indian thali of idli, vada, mini dosa and utthapam With sambhar and chutney for 110 rupees, both prepared by a private restaurant based in the Bengali market are among the food boxes that legislators and others in Parliament can choose from during the next monsoon session that begins Monday with strict protocols of health.

Staff in parliament and the media will have to place orders and pay a day in advance, officials familiar with the matter said. Officials added that they really don’t know how many people will take advantage of the food box option, given that most people are wary of going out to eat during the pandemic.

Non-vegetable food boxes will also be available: Rs 150 for a chicken cutlet, croissant, boiled vegetables and a little butter, or Rs 100 for chicken biriyani and raita will be available.

With the northern parliament canteen operated by the railways closed due to coronavirus disease and cooking is not allowed in the parliament complex for this session, the food to be served will be sourced from outside. The railroads will distribute and serve the food within the Casa complex and manage the payments.

These, officials insisted, are temporary measures during extraordinary circumstances and the best option after considering several factors. In the next session, the government’s tourism arm, ITDC, will take over the Chamber’s dining room.

As the Bengali Market-based restaurant only specializes in vegetarian food, the non-vegetarian items will be prepared in an MP canteen on North Avenue near the Parliament property.

“This dining room was closed for the last few months. But it will open if the non-veg menu is approved. Meanwhile, two cooks from the parliament dining room have been deployed there to assist the staff, ”said one of the officials.

The breakfast menu (cheese rolls, sandwiches, vegetable patties, samosas and kachories) will be delivered to the parliament complex before 7:30 AM. M. Candy will also be served. The early morning deadline will be strictly followed as the movement of visitors will be restricted once the House begins operating at 9 am for the morning shift. Except for the opening day, Rajya Sabha will be seated from 9 a.m. M. And the Lok Sabha will begin its session from 3 p.m. M. There will be no weekend breaks during the 18-day session ending October 1.

Lunch will be brought in hot boxes at 1 p.m., officials said.

Rajya Sabha’s secretariat has already sent a circular to its officials saying that those “who wish to take advantage of the food can place the order and make the payment to the northern railway one day in advance.”
