Delhi posted its biggest single-day jump in coronavirus cases with 4,321 fesh infections in 24 hours, bringing the city’s bill to more than 2.14 lakh, government data showed today. The spike comes as the capital resumed metro services a few days ago and reopened bars on a trial basis.
Twenty-eight people have died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the national capital to 4,715, the latest state government health bulletin showed.
The previous highest peak was Thursday when 4,308 people tested positive for the deadly disease that has affected millions around the world.
This is the fourth consecutive day in which more than 4,000 new cases have been registered in the national capital.
In the last 10 days, cases in the national capital have been on the rise. On September 2, the number of reported infections was 2,509, which has almost doubled now.
60,000 tests were carried out for the second day in a row in Delhi. The tests have intensified in recent days. Of the total number of tests performed, 9,182 are RT-PCR tests and more than 50,500 are rapid antigen tests.
A few weeks ago, there was a sharp decline in the number of cases in Delhi and the infections reported in a single day dropped to 805 in early August.
The number of active cases rose to 28,059 on Saturday from 26,907 on Friday.
The total number of recoveries in the capital of the country is 1.81,295 with a mortality rate of 2.2%. The mortality rate in the last 10 days is 0.68%. The recovery rate in the capital is currently at 84.68 percent; has been decreasing.
The city has so far 1,383 containment zones.
