Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh each had 70 batting before Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa took seven wickets between them to seal the victory despite a first century ODI from Sam Billings.

Returning to the side that had missed the final T20I with a dislocated finger, England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to pitch first.
Jofra Archer produced a one-delivery peach to remove the top of David Warner’s stump and provide England with an early breakthrough. Aaron Finch also fell into the first Powerplay, beating Mark Wood’s first installment.
Marcus Stoinis, hitting three in the absence of Steve Smith, who was out as a precaution after taking a hit to the head while training Thursday, ran to 43 before falling similarly to his captain to the same bowler.
Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey fell to Adil Rashid, who has now claimed eight wickets in four games against Australia this year, before Marsh and Maxwell teamed up.
By the time Archer eliminated Maxwel, the off-roader had already racked up 77 59-ball runs and the pair had doubled the score, from 123/5 to 249/6. Wood caught Marsh up front before he could hit the first punch on death, but Mitchell Starc’s innings, including a last-ball high, brought the total to 294/9.
Chasing what would have been a record chase at Old Trafford in ODIs, England’s response quickly got into trouble when Josh Hazlewood reclaimed the grounds of Jason Roy and Joe Root to cut the host to 13/2 after 7.1 overs.
Morgan got the innings moving with a quick 23 before falling to Adam Zampa, who then had Jos Buttler caught in his next over to leave England again and need to rebuild.
Jonny Bairstow teamed up with Sam Billings and after a period in which both hitters struggled to find their moment, the opener got underway with a pair of sixes off Zampa. But he was also the one who spun his legs who ended Bairstow’s charge after 84 runs and 107 balls.
Billings took the lead at the time and kept England in with an outside possibility even as the wickets fell at the other end. The Kent hitter reached his first century of ODI but couldn’t keep up, eventually dropping 118 on the last ball of innings as Australia sealed a 19-run win.
The result means Australia have recorded their first points in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League since their first match in the tournament, tying Ireland with 10 points.
The second ODI will be played on Sunday, September 13 at the same venue.
